Nature & the course of life furnish every man the most recluse with a sufficient variety of objects to supply him with the elements & divisions of a Scale. Let him look upon any portion of his life; he will see that things have entirely lost the relative proportions which they wore to the eye at the moment when they transpired. The dearest aims of his ambition have sunk out of sight & some transient shade of thought looms up out of forgotten years.
